Bradley Burns wins final Donington race but faces another start investigation

Bradley Burns won the final TCR UK race of the weekend at Donington Park but is just like in Race 1 facing an investigation of his start.

The Audi driver started eighth but made a strong first lap and which saw him climbing up to third place.

Reversed grid pole sitter Harry Bloor (Hyundai) stalled on the grid and dropped down to finish 13th.

Instead it was Cupra driver Sam Laidlaw who snatched the lead from third on the grid as the second grid spot was left empty by Callum Newsham who suffered a front suspension issue on the out lap.

Newsham did eventually join the race, albeit two laps down to finish 16th and last.

Burns made the move for second place on Luke Sargeant at the start of lap two.

Sam Laidlaw then threw his race lead away as he made a mistake coming into the chicane on lap four, getting his Cupra properly sideways to drop down to second place behind TCR UK debutant Burns.

A big fight broke out for fifth place with a couple of laps left between Sargeant (Audi), Ryan Bensley (Lynk & Co) and Alistair Camp (Hyundai).

Camp made an impressive charge from the last row of the grid and managed to pass Bensley for sixth place.

Camp then set his sights on Sargeant and made the move stick for fifth place on lap 11, enabling Bensley to snatch sixth place as well while Sargeant had to settle for seventh.

Burns, who is entered as a guest driver and does not score points, won the race by close to four seconds over Sam Laidlaw who collects maximum points. The investigation of Burns’ start is still ongoing and a decision will be communicated later.

Adam Shepherd fought his way up to third place from ninth on the grid while race one winner Brad Hutchison finished fourth, having started tenth on the reversed grid.

Camp came home a solid fifth from 16th on the grid ahead of Bensley and Sargeant, while Finn Leslie rounded off the top eight.

There was drama on the warm up lap as Steve Laidlaw stopped on track with what seemed to be an electrical issue. As the Cupra driver then tried to speed up back through the field, he came close to hit several drivers who were warming their tyres.

Steve Laidlaw entered the pits from where he started the race and finished tenth behind Will Beech.

The third race weekend of the 2025 season will be held at Silverstone on May 17-18.
