Bobby Thompson rules out possibility of BTCC drive in 2025
Bobby Thompson has confirmed that he won’t compete in the British Touring Car Championship this season, instead focusing his attentions on making a return to the series in 2026.
Thompson had been in talks with a number of teams about a full-time campaign in the championship for 2025 however budget restrictions have ultimately seen him miss out on the chance to secure a seat on the grid.
The former Jack Sears Trophy champion first made his debut back in 2018 with the now disbanded Team HARD, achieving a number of giant-killing results in preceding years.
Last season, the 28-year-old made a one-off appearance at Snetterton with West Surrey Racing where he claimed an impressive podium finish. Unfortunately he was forced back onto the sidelines shortly after due to finalncial complexities out his and the team’s control.
“I’m disappointed to confirm that I won’t be competing in the 2025 British Touring Car Championship, ” said Thompson in a statement on social media.
“Despite discussions with multiple teams, I was unable to secure the necessary budget to race in a competitive seat capable of fighting at the front.
“However, I’ll still be actively involved in the BTCC paddock, coaching drivers and working with sponsors as I prepare for a strong return in 2026.
“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported me — BTCC fans, teams, my management, and my family — who worked tirelessly to try and make this season happen.
“While it wasn’t meant to be this time, I’ll be back, and I look forward to seeing everyone at track soon. I’ll keep you all updated on my plans. See you around the paddock!”
