Albert Park finale abandoned due to heavy rainfall

The fourth and final race of the Supercars Championship race weekend at Albert Park has been abandoned due to heavy rainfall.

The field headed out on track behind the safety car but the red flags were brought out after only two laps.

No points will be awarded for the race as the field did not complete more than 50% of the race distance.

Broc Feeney headed the field from pole while his Triple Eight team-mate and title rival started 21st.

“I definitely lucked into it this year to be honest,” said Brown.

“We had a very poor qualifying for this race, and I’m sorry to all the fans that have come out and watching on TV, we wanted to put on a show, but there were so many puddles out there.

“At 80km/h you were nearly on the limit around Turn 5 and some of those corners that have puddles, so disappointing for everyone watching, but ultimately the conditions were really bad out there.

“I’m really excited to win the Larry Perkins Trophy again, I drove with Jack Perkins for three years, I know Larry quite well, so very honoured to win that one. Not the way we want to win it, but overall a really good weekend for Red Bull Ampol Racing.”

Brown heads home from Albert Park in the lead of the drivers’ standings, seven points ahead of Cameron Waters and 49 points ahead of team-mate Feeney.

The next Supercars Championship round will take place in New Zealand with the ITM Taupō Super 440 on April 11-13.
