Hill and Percat secures first Matt Stone Racing 1-2 in second Melbourne race

Cameron Hill and Nick Percat secured a first-ever Matt Stone Racing 1-2 in the second Supercars Championship race at Albert Park.

Hill started second behind pole sitter Broc Feeney but made a better start to snatch the lead ahead of the Triple Eight driver.

As Feeney tried to reclaim the lead, Hill defended sternly which enabled his team-mate Percat to claim second place.

There was contact between Ryan Wood and Jack Le Brocq on the first lap at Turn 5, resulting in a spin into the wall for Le Brocq.

The safety car headed out on track as Wood was handed a drive through penalty for the incident.

As the race resumed on the fourth lap, there was contact between David Reynolds and Thomas Randle coming into the first corner.

Reynolds was beached in the gravel trap and the safety car was called out again.

The race was relatively uneventful for the remaining part, bar a fight for third place between Triple Eight team-mates Feeney and Will Brown.

Brown was able to get past for third with just a couple of laps left and started to reel in Percat in second place.

But Brown did not manage to get past and Hill won the race just below six tenths of a second ahead of Percat and eight tenths ahead of Brown.

Feeney was fifth while Andre Heimgartner and Cameron Waters rounded off the top six.

Two qualifying sessions will be held later today ahead of the third race on Saturday and the fourth race on Sunday.
