Broc Feeney and Will Brown claims Triple Eight 1-2 in Albert Park opener

Broc Feeney and Will Brown headed a Triple Eight Race Engineering 1-2 in the first Supercars Championship race of the weekend at Albert Park, held alongside the Formula 1 season opener.

Feeney started from pole and headed the field ahead of Brown as the lights went out, with Matt Stone Racing’s Cameron Hill and Erebus Motorsport driver Jack Le Brocq in third and fourth place.

There were plenty of battles throughout the field in the opening part of the race that got neutralised on lap seven as Aaron Cameron beached his Blanchard Racing Team Ford Mustang in the gravel at Turn 3 following a mistake.

This brought the safety car out on track for three laps.

Action continued as the race resumed, with Jack Le Brocq and Brodie Kostecki making contact in the fight for third place, sending Erebus Motorsport’s Le Brocq into a spin to later finish 19th.

With just two laps left of the race, Nick Percat and Cooper Murray came together at Turn 4, resulting in a spin for Murray who dropped down to finish 21st while Percat continued to finish 13th.

Brown closed in on leading team-mate Feeney towards the end of the race, but Feeney was able to keep ahead to win the race by just over a second.

Hill completed the podium ahead of Kostecki, Ryan Wood and Cameron Waters who stormed from 22nd on the grid to finish sixth.

Waters keeps the lead of the drivers’ championship, 40 points ahead of Brown and 73 over Feeney.

The second race of the weekend starts at 14:50 local time/04:50 CET on Friday.
