Swedish Motorsport Federation announces postponed STCC season to 2026
The Swedish Motorsport Federation has announced that there will be no STCC season in 2025 and that their efforts will be moved to 2026 instead.
“We have investigated the conditions for the 2025 STCC season but realised that there is not enough time to produce a season worthy the official Swedish Title in 2025. That is why we instead aim for the championship to return stronger in 2026,” said Anna Nordkvist, managing director of the Swedish Motorsport Federation.
“We need to set a strategy and a plan moving forward, similar to what we have done for the Swedish Rally Championship.”
The Swedish Motorsport Federation took the role of coordinating a solution for a new promoter for the STCC when SNB Events AB announced in December last year that it would cease operations as promoter for the championship.
The three existing teams of the championship, Brink Motorsport, Exion Racing and PWR Racing had announced their commitment for the 2025 season, but will instead shift its focus for 2026.
“We as a team do find it disappointing that the STCC will be put on hold for 2025, but we have full understanding for the decision, keeping the economy and the current situation in the world in mind,” said Kevin Engman, team manager for Exion Racing.
“We are at the same time inspired by the hard work from the past years by teams, promoters, developers, tracks and the Swedish Motorsport Federation. This means that we will keep a positive mindset and look forward to a restart of the STCC in 2026.”
Exion Racing fielded six cars in 2024, three Volkswagens and three BMWs while reigning champions Brink Motorsport fielded three Teslas.
“The racing that we saw in 2024 was one of the best we’ve seen in a long time. Unfortunately the time was too short to find a new promoter for 2025,” said Tobias Brink, driver and co-owner of Brink Motorsport.
“Nonetheless, we are convinced that this is the right way to go and we look forward to the 2026 STCC season.”
PWR Racing fielded three Cupras in 2024 and were via the PWR Group also responsible for construction of the all-new electric touring cars used in the STCC last year, following a one-year delay from the previously planned 2023 introduction.
“The PWR Group has invested considerable resources for many years to electrify the championship and create a stronger platform and business model for Swedish racing. To pause the championship is a difficult but necessary decision to secure a sustainable and long-term future,” said Micke Jansson, CEO of PWR Group.
“We look forward to continue our work and contribute to an even stronger comeback in 2026, where innovation, entertainment and sporting qualities are the main focus points.”
