Cameron Waters lands perfect triple despite late Race 3 rain

Cameron Waters made it three out of three wins from the 2025 Supercars Championship season opener at Sydney Motorsport Park, winning in style despite a late rain shower.

The Tickford Racing driver (Ford) started from pole position once again but was immediately challenged into Turn 1 by Triple Eight driver Broc Feeney (Chevrolet) who started second.

Waters managed to retain the lead heading into Turn 2, instead leaving Feeney vulnerable to team-mate Will Brown who snatched second place a couple of corners later.

As the first pit stops were completed, Waters continued to extend his lead while teams kept a close eye on their monitors for approaching rain ahead of the second round of stops.

But the entire field pitted before any rain had hit the circuit.

The rainfall hit the circuit with eleven laps left of the race.

Feeney hit trouble with ten laps left of the race as newcomer and Erebus Motorsport driver Cooper Murray made contact with the Triple Eight driver.

This enabled Chaz Mostert to snatch third place while Feeney fell down to fifth place and the stewards handed Murray a 15-second penalty for the incident.

A trio consisting of Mostert, Feeney and Brodie Kostecki fought for third place on the slippery circuit during the last couple of laps.

Feeney tried to get past Mostert, but instead it was Kostecki who managed to pass Feeney for fourth place.

Waters won the race by just over six seconds ahead of Brown while Mostert snatched the final podium position.

Kostecki came home in fourth ahead of Feeney while Matthew Payne, Anton De Pasquale and James Golding rounded off the top eight.

The next Supercars Championship race takes place at Albert Park on March 13-16 together with the Formula 1 GP weekend.
