Cameron Waters beats Broc Feeney by 0.030s in epic second race

Cameron Waters came out on top in the second Supercars Championship race at Sydney Motorsport Park by just three hundredths of a second in an epic fight with Broc Feeney and Will Brown.

Tickford Racing’s Waters started on pole and headed into the lead ahead of Triple Eight’s Feeney as the lights went out.

The safety car headed out on lap eight which saw the field pitting and Feeney getting past Waters.

Waters then found himself behind Feeney, Brown and Chaz Mostert after the second and final pit stop was completed.

But Waters was on the move and quickly got past both Mostert and Brown, then starting to reel in Feeney and was right on his bumper with a couple of laps left of the race.

Waters then made a late move on Feeney into Turn 4 with four laps left, resulting in a spin for Feeney and a subsequent odd sequence of events.

Waters slowed down to let Feeney back past at the same time as Brown tried to get past for the lead.

Feeney managed to get past for the lead eventually, with Waters remaining right on his rear bumper until the last corner of the last lap.

Feeney was then able to get a better run in the sprint for the finishing line, managing to get a nose ahead to claim victory with a margin of 0.030 seconds.

Brown came home in third place, 0.1996 seconds behind the squabbling lead duo while Mostert was fourth, 1.8 seconds adrift.

Matthew Payne came home in fifth ahead of Thomas Randle, Anton De Pasquale and Andre Heimgartner.

Next up is qualifying for the third and final race, starting at 16:35 local time/04:35 CET on Sunday.
