Cameron Waters controls Supercars opener to first 2025 win

Cameron Waters controlled the first Supercars Championship race of 2025 at Sydney Motorsport Park, beating fellow Ford driver Chaz Mostert by a massive 17 seconds.

The Tickford Racing driver started from pole and made a strong start to snatch a lead which was never to be threatened during the race.

Disaster struck Broc Feeney, who started from second place, as the Triple Eight Chevrolet driver suffered a puncture at mid-point of the race and had to pit.

This dropped Feeney from the lead fight to finish down in 14th place.

Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Mostert meanwhile started eighth but made a strong start and was up to fifth place by the end of the first lap.

Another driver on a charge was reigning champion Will Brown who started eleventh after a mistake during qualifying, climbing up to finish a solid fifth.

The final couple of laps saw a tough fight for second place between Matthew Payne, Thomas Randle and Mostert.

Payne struggled for grip as his two rivals had pitted later than him and Mostert was first to get past up into second place with three laps to go.

The very last lap of the race saw Randle managing to get past for the final podium position at Turn 8, demoting Payne to fourth.

2023 champion Brodie Kostecki finished sixth ahead of Andre Heimgartner and Anton De Pasquale.

Next up is qualifying for the second race, with the top ten shootout starting at 16:35 local time/06:35 CET on Saturday.
