TCR Australia cancels opening round in New Zealand
The TCR Australia has canceled its participation in the opening round at Taupō Motorsport Park in New Zealand together with the Supercars Championship, according to velocitynews.co.nz.
The round was scheduled for April 11-13 and teams have received the following message from the organisation:
“Unfortunately, as you may have seen in the news, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to withdraw from Taupo Supercars due to logistical challenges and a lack of commitment from teams. As you can understand, TCR Australia is currently going through a rebuild phase and we must prioritise a smooth transition for our teams.”
TCR Australia recently announced a new rights holder, headed by TCR Asia promoter David Sonenscher, taking over from the Australian Racing Group (ARG) which operated the series since its foundation in 2019.
The organisation is yet to confirmed whether the Taupō round will be replaced, with the Perth Super 440 round on June 6-8 currently taking over the season opener slot.
Rumours indicate that a round at Sydney Motorsport Park or One Raceway could be announced as a replacement round.
