TCR Denmark introduces new Am class for 2025
Organisers of TCR Denmark have announced a change in structure for the series for the 2025 season with the introduction of a new Am class.
Previously, anyone under the age of 40 has been automatically classed as a Pro driver but the new rule will see race results, FIA classification and TCR World Ranking performance used to determine which category a driver will be entered into.
Those eligible to compete in the U25 championship will be classified as a Pro driver, as well will those rated gold, silver or platinum by the FIA.
Anyone ranked in the top 100 in the TCR World Driver Ranking at the end of the previous calendar year will also run in the Pro class, as will anyone with an overall top five finish in the TCR Denmark standings.
To be eligible for the Am class, drivers will need to be over the age of 25 and be classified no higher than bronze by the FIA, as well as being outside the top 100 in the rankings in the previous season.
Drivers in either a Gen-1 car or a car with a DSG gearbox will run as an Am unless their FIA ranking is too high.
The introduction of the Am category means the Trofeo will be discontinued.
“There are some of the country’s best racing drivers in the championship, but we think we must offer something to compete for to those drivers who continue to develop,” TCR Denmark chairman of the board Bent Dyhre Hansen said.
“By creating a results-based AM class, we expect to stir more action in the middle of the field.”
