Peugeot pair excluded from second Termas Rio Hondo race
The fight for the 2024 TCR South America title has taken a twist after Leonel Pernía and Pedro Cardoso were both excluded from the results of the second race at the Termas de Río Hondo circuit.
Pernía had taken victory in the race with Cardoso in third place, a result that moved him into the championship lead going into the season finale at the Autódromo Municipal Juan Manuel Fangio in Rosario at the end of the month.
However, following a protest lodged by the W2 Pro GP team and investigation of the Peugeot 308 TCR, it was determined that the launch control system in the two PMO Racing cars was ‘not in conformity with art. 3.8 of TCR Technical Regulations’ about the launch control system’.
As a result, both Pernía and Cardoso have been excluded from the result which moves Galid Osman into first place, with Juan Manuel Casella and Fabián Yannantuoni now completing the podium.
The revised result means Casella now moves back into the championship lead and will take an advantage of 20 points over Cardoso into the season finale.
Raphael Reis and Juan Ángel Rosso are also still in the title fight with two races remaining.
