Dušan Borković addresses Serbian president after scoring nation’s maiden World Tour win

Dušan Borković became the first Serbian driver to win in the FIA TCR World Tour on Sunday as he scored a maiden victory in the Macau season-finale.

Borković, who joined the championship for the second round of the season in Marrakech, led home a GOAT Racing 1-2-3 in the last race of 2024 as a gamble for slicks on a damp track paid off for the Spanish outfit.

In the ensuing press conference, Borković was visibly elated as he shared the interview stage with his team-mates Esteban Guerrieri and Marco Butti, as well as newly-crowned champion and long-time comrade Norbert Michelisz.

”I am feeling overwhelmed,” said Borković. “I wish to congratulate Norbi, as he is a very good friend. I had started the season in TCR Europe, then in Marrakech I was given the opportunity to try the World Tour. During the season I was making some mistakes, but I was very fast in Brazil and Uruguay, and I was learning a lot from Esteban (Guerrieri). I wanted to improve and sometimes I overdrove, but Esteban has been really helpful. I am very happy to be on the podium with these guys today!”

Going on to speak about his home country on a significant day for Serbian motorsport, Borković even addressed the nation’s president.

“In my country I have pressure, because my races are on national TV, people are watching,” Borković explained. “I also want to say thanks to my president of Serbia, who also I want to impress.

“To all my fans in Serbia; this is for all of you. Next year I hope I will be back for more.”

Meanwhile Michelisz, who also hails from a relatively small motorsport nation in Hungary, was full of praise for Borković’s winning drive.

”Being together in this position with Dušan is very special,” said Michelisz. “We have known each other a long time. I know how tough it is to come from a country where the background of motorsports is not huge, so what he did is something truly amazing. I really hope that we will see each other next year again.”
