Marco Butti undergoes medical checks after Macau qualifying crash
Marco Butti has undergone precautionary medical checks following a heavy crash in qualifying for the FIA TCR World Tour finale in Macau, but is likely to return to the grid for the rest of the event.
Butti suffered a big impact in Macau’s notorious mountain section during Friday’s Q1 qualifying segment, causing significant damage to his GOAT Racing Honda Civic Type R FL5 TCR.
Speaking to TouringCarTimes, GOAT Racing team boss Pepe Oriola said Butti had locked the rear wheels and spun into the barriers, and that the Italian driver was subsequently attended to in the Macau medical centre for routine checks.
“After such a heavy crash it’s protocol to have some medical checks,” Oriola said. “Everything seems to be OK, but the doctors want to see him again tomorrow just to check again and monitor him one more time. He was feeling a bit dizzy but he should be able to (race).”
As for the condition of the car and whether it would be possible to repair it on site in Macau, Oriola left a clear message:
“GOAT Racing always puts the car back on track.”
