Raphael Reis inherits bronze medal as Eric Gené gets penalty
Monlau Motorsport driver Raphael Reis (Cupra) has inherited third place in the main race and the bronze medal of the 2024 FIA Motosport Games in Valencia following a penalty for team-mate Eric Gené.
It was on the first lap of the race when Gené made contact with Janík Motosport’s Adam Kout (Hyundai), with the Czech driver losing several positions.
After the race, the stewards handed Gené a ten-second time penalty for the incident.
“He (Kout) had already touched me at Turn 2 and I was a bit off balance, for me this is normal touring car racing,” Gené told TouringCarTimes after the race.
Brazilian Reis, who was fourth at the chequered flag, has now been promoted to third place and received the bronze medal from his team-mate.
“The initial stages of the race were a bit difficult for me, with the track being difficult because of the rain,” the Brazilian told TouringCarTimes.
Reis also received contact from SP Competition’s Aurélien Comte, for which the Frenchman was also penalized.
“During the last laps I was being careful, but I made a decision, because I was worried Comte could do something,” added Reis.
“Still, I think is fair and I got a medal, which was my target when I came here, so I’m very happy,” concluded the Brazilian.
