Norbert Michelisz “happy” despite reduced points lead

Norbert Michelisz had a quiet FIA TCR World Tour weekend in China but said that he was happy despite having his championship lead reduced from 25 points to just ten ahead of the Macau season finale.

“We’re still leading the championship and that was the target for the event. Considering the pace I had this weekend, I’m happy with the outcome,” said Michelisz.

The BRC Hyundai driver qualified fifth but dropped to finish seventh in the first race and eighth in the second, having started sixth.

“Race 1 was really tricky because the rain started to come and it was very difficult to predict the correct tyre choice,” said Michelisz.

“The rain started to intensify but my target was always to score some points to keep the championship battle more or less in shape from my side. I would have preferred to finish fifth or sixth, but I did my best and P7 was the maximum for me.

“Race 2 was quite chaotic, especially after the first two corners. I received some hits on the left rear and lost some positions, but again my target was to stay in the fight and score points. Finishing P8 is a decent result.”

Main title rival Esteban Guerrieri finished second and fifth in the two Chinese races and trails Michelisz by ten points ahead of the Macau season finale where there are 75 points up for grabs.

Thed Björk, who finished third and tenth at Zhuzhou, is placed third overall, 19 points adrift.
