Scott Sumpton parts ways with Restart Racing
Scott Sumpton has announced that he has parted ways with Restart Racing following the conclusion of the 2024 British Touring Car Championship season.
The 19-year-old joined the team at the start of 2023 to race in the TCR UK Championship before remaining with them for a second successive campaign as they graduated to the BTCC this past year.
Driving a Cupra Leon along one-time race winner Chris Smiley, Sumpton achieved a best result of 11th at Knockhill – which also enabled him to scoop a maiden Independents’ victory.
In a statement on Facebook, Sumpton said: “It is with regret that, after two incredible seasons with Restart Racing, the time has come for me to move on to a new exciting challenge within the BTCC.
“This journey has been filled with highs, lows, unforgettable moments, and memories that I will always cherish. I feel truly fortunate to have raced for such an outstanding team.
“I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire team at Restart Racing for their great support over the past couple of years.
“In particular, my deepest gratitude goes to Ben Taylor for his belief in me and for giving me the incredible opportunity to compete in the BTCC, one of the greatest championships in the world. It’s an experience I will never forget.
“While this is the end of one chapter, I’m ready to come back stronger next year, back to the BTCC. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of my journey so far—your support means the world to me. Watch this space—big things are coming.”
