Brad Hutchison wins Silverstone finale as Carl Boardley claims second TCR UK title
Brad Hutchison won the final TCR UK race of the season at Silverstone as Carl Boardley became the first driver to secure two TCR UK titles by finishing fourth.
Disaster struck pole sitter and title contender Callum Newsham (Hyundai) right as the lights went out, suddenly slowing down due to a suspected driveshaft failure and pitted to retire at the end of the first lap.
Instead it was Area Motorsport driver Adam Shepherd (Cupra) who claimed the lead from second place on the grid ahead of Hutchison (Cupra) and a fast-starting Steven Laidlaw (Cupra).
But the joy was not to last for long for Shepherd who suddenly slowed from the lead on lap six due to a suspected engine misfire, just as in the first race of the weekend. The Cupra driver headed into the pits and retirement on lap seven, handing the lead to Hutchison.
CMB With Hart GT driver Boardley avoided taking any risks during the race and lost positions to Luke Sargeant (Audi) and Darron Lewis (Hyundai) on the second lap, dropping down to seventh.
Hutchison was on his own at the top while Steven Laidlaw had to defend second place hard from Hyundai i30 N TCR driver Camp. Steven Laidlaw was able to only just keep ahead at the finishing line, but Camp was handed a ten-second penalty for a “starting procedure infraction” which dropped him from third to fifth.
Audi driver Sargeant inherited third place ahead of the 2024 TCR UK champion Boardley who finished fourth.
