Callum Newsham steals win on last lap from Adam Shepherd
Callum Newsham managed to pass Adam Shepherd in the final corner of the last lap to win the first race of the TCR UK season finale weekend at Silverstone.
Hyundai driver Newsham started on pole but was beaten into the first corner by Cupra driver Shepherd.
Newsham was close to Shepherd initially but dropped further behind as the race progressed.
But disaster then struck Area Motorsport driver Shepherd on the last lap as a misfire saw him slow down and lose the lead, albeit being able to save second place.
Brad Hutchison (Cupra) was a distant third, 16 seconds behind the leaders.
Points leader Carl Boardley made a rocket start from sixth on the grid and was up into fourth place into Turn 1.
But the Cupra driver lost touch with the leading trio and instead had to defend hard from the fast TCR UK newcomer Ryan Bensley, who had fought his way past Darron Lewis for fifth in the first part of the race.
The Lynk & Co 03 TCR driver then chased down Boardley and managed to get past him briefly on the last lap.
But Boardley was able to respond quickly and save fourth place over the finishing line.
JH Racing driver Alistair Camp rounded off the top six, 24 seconds from winning driver Newsham.
The second race of the season finale weekend starts at 13:35 local time/14:35 CEST on Sunday.
