Jake Hill lost for words after claiming maiden BTCC title
Jake Hill has shared his emotions after clinching the British Touring Car Championship title for the first time in his career.
On what proved to be a dramatic final day of the season at Brands Hatch, the West Surrey Racing driver produced a champions drive in the finale to edge out Tom Ingram and lift the coveted prize.
Hill and Ingram entered the weekend tied on points however a win apiece for the protagonists saw the pendulum swing back and forth. Holding a one-point lead going into Round 30, the BMW driver battled his way forward in wet conditions to clinch second place and with it, the title.
“I don’t think I’ve got the words to sum up my emotions,” said Hill. “This is absolutely everything I’ve ever wanted and to now be standing here as the 2024 BTCC Champion is simply incredible.
“Today, in fact the whole season, has been an absolute battle and for it to come down to between me and Tom in the final race – with just a point between us – was pretty fitting.
“Those first few laps it felt like Tom had the upper hand but once the pressures came up in my car I felt we had a chance. Crossing the line was an experience I’ll never forget
“It’s been such a fight these last 15 years, not knowing if the dream would continue or end, but now we’ve made it happen. I’ve got to say a massive thank you to every single member of West Surrey Racing, MB Motorsport and all of my amazing family, friends and partners.”
