Colin Turkington privileged to win Goodyear Wingfoot Award for third time
Colin Turkington has shared his delight at clinching the Goodyear Wingfoot Award for the third time in five years after storming to his fourth pole position of the season at the British Touring Car Championship finale.
The West Surrey Racing driver set a brand-new lap record around the Grand Prix circuit as he paced the opposition, maintaining his strike rate of qualifying on the front row at every meeting since the turn of the summer break.
Still holding a slender mathematical chance of claiming a fifth Drivers’ Championship, the four-time champion has outlined that his goal for race day will be to close out the season with more silverware.
“That’s my fourth pole of the year and it was important to get myself up there ahead of the main protagonists,” said the Northern Irishman.
“It’s obviously great to be on pole, I’ve completed better laps than that, but it was obviously good enough. It’s a good place to start from tomorrow so that’s the first part of the job done.
“My job tomorrow will be pretty much the same, I’ll be trying to win the race, but let’s get through lap one and then adjust the strategy from there. I’m pretty privileged to win the Goodyear Wingfoot Award – it’s the third time I’ve won – so it’s testament to all the hard work by everyone at Team BMW.”
