José María López to make TCR debut
Former World Touring Car champion José María López will make his TCR debut this weekend when he joins the grid for the TCR South America event in Buenos Aires.
López lifted the WTCC title for three successive seasons as part of the all-conquering Citroen line-up between 2014 and 2016, and has since gone on to secure further World titles with Toyota in the WEC.
The 41-year-old won both the 2019-20 and the 2021 titles with the Japanese manufacturer, winning the Le Mans 24 Hours in the latter season.
López will be at the wheel of a Toyota Corolla GRS run by the Toyota Team Argentina alongside TCR South America race winner and title contender Matías Rossi.
Jacobo Cosío will also become the first Mexican to compete in the series when he takes his place on the grid in another Toyota entered by Paladini Racing.
