Ignacio Montenegro claims close final TCR Europe pole of 2024

Title contender Ignacio Montenegro (Honda) claimed a vital final TCR Europe pole position of 2024 during the season finale qualifying session at Valencia in Spain.

The ALM Motorsport driver beat title rival and points leader Franco Girolami (Cupra) by just 73 thousands of a second.

Pole position hands Montenegro ten points, gaining three points on Girolami for a total difference of 28 points between the two with 80 points remaining.

Swedish racer Viktor Andersson (Lynk & Co) claimed third place on the grid, just over a tenth from pole, ahead of Santiago Conception (Honda) of GOAT Racing.

Title contender Aurélien Comte (Cupra) will have a lot of work to do in the races after claiming the fifth fastest time in qualifying, just below three tenths from pole position. The French driver now trails Girolami by ten points.

ALM Motorsport’s Ruben Volt was sixth ahead of Nicola Baldan and series debutant Jenson Brickley.

The first race of the weekend starts at 16:40 CEST this afteroon.
