Toyota reported to investigate Supercars entry for 2026

Toyota Australia is reported to be investigating a potential entry to the Supercars Championship from 2026 alongside Chevrolet and Ford according to Speedcafe.

Walkinshaw Andretti United is supposedly linked to the project as the team already works with the Japanese manufacturer, performing right-hand conversion work on the Tundra road car model.

Toyota is currently present on the Australian motorsport scene through the GR Cup with the Toyota 86 model.

Should Toyota enter the Australian championship, it would likely be with the Supra model alongside the Camaro and Mustang models of Chevrolet and Ford.

The last time the Supercars Championship had three manufacturers was in 2019 when Nissan raced against Holden and Ford.

Similar rumours about Toyota were reported in early 2023, but then Toyota Australia’s vice president of sales and marketing dismissed them.

“We looked at it with Lexus years ago. We did look at it seriously with Lexus but it just didn’t work for us at the time. We really haven’t considered it for Toyota, not in the last ten years,” said Sean Hanley to Torquecafe.

There is so far no official statement from Toyota Australia on the latest reports.
