Malte Ebdrup withstands hard pressure from Mike Halder to win race two

Malte Ebdrup won the second TCR Denmark race of the Jyllandsringen weekend from fifth place on the reversed grid, withstanding tough pressure from points leader Mike Halder in the final part of the race.

Jacob Wunderov started from pole ahead of Cupra driver Michael Markussen but got a slow start, slotting into second behind Markussen.

Honda driver Gustav Birch made a strong start from fourth and was up third before the end of the first lap.

Race 1 winner Halder was also on the move at the start, making a crucial pass on title rival Kasper Jensen for fifth place on the third lap.

A corner after Halder’s pass saw Ebdrup passing Birch for third place which soon became second place as Markussen was handed two penalty rounds for jumping the start, dropping the Cupra driver down to sixth place.

TPR Motorsport Halder continued his strong run to pass Birch for third as the race entered its final half.

Ebdrup made the move for the lead on Wunderov with six minutes left of the race with some contact heading into the penultimate corner of the lap, a move which allowed Halder to snatch second.

Halder then put hard pressure on Ebdrup who drove strongly to keep first place and claim his second win of the year.

Halder’s second place has placed him in the lead on 313 points, seven points ahead of Jensen who was unable to get past Wunderov and had to settle for fourth in this race.

Birch came home in fifth ahead of earlier race leader Markussen in sixth.

The third and final race of the weekend starts at 15:20 CEST.
