Carl Boardley reinstated into Silverstone opener

Carl Boardley has reclaimed victory in the opening TCR UK Championship race of the weekend at Silverstone after stewards elected to overturn his exclusion.

The defending champion had been disqualified for the incident at the opening corner of lap one that saw fellow Cupra driver Adam Shepherd go off on the exit of Copse, with the Clerk of the Course decision stating that the “penalty reflects the continued amount of contact between cars 1 and 117 all season, with repeated warnings from the Clerk regarding driving
standards.”

Boardley and the Hart GT team appealed against the severity of the penalty however, with stewards deciding that whilst the Clerk had been correct to find Boardley at fault, the penalty was ‘too hard for a first corner [incident]’.

As a result, Boardley was re-instated into the result but instead handed a ten-place grid penalty that will leave him at the back of the grid for race two.
