Nick Percat heads Chaz Mostert in first Symmons Plains race

Nick Percat won the first Supercars Championship race of the weekend at Symmons Plains, beating Chaz Mostert by less than a second.

The Matt Stone Racing driver had qualified fourth while Triple Eight’s Broc Feeney started on pole ahead of Cam Waters and Brodie Kostecki.

Percat climed to third early in the race and managed to snatch the lead from Feeney after the pit stops.

Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Mostert had qualified fifth and charged up towards the front at the end of the race, passing Feeney for second place on lap 50 of 55.

Percat (Chevrolet) won the race by 0.6 seconds ahead of Mostert (Ford) with Feeney (Chevrolet) third, close to two seconds behind.

Waters (Ford), who started on the front row, dropped down to finish fourth ahead of Kostecki (Chevrolet).

Points leader Brown had a nightmare qualifying due to a red flag interruption which saw him start 16th. The Triple Eight driver managed to climb back to finish seventh and now heads Mostert by 63 points compared to 105 ahead of the weekend.

The second Supercars race of the weekend starts at 15:05 local time on Sunday.
