Rob Huff: “That was a proper touring car race”

Rob Huff was left over the moon after winning what he described as a ‘proper touring car race’ last weekend at Knockhill.

The Speedworks Motorsport produced virtuoso performance in the British Touring Car Championship finale north of the border to tally his second win of the season and with it, move up to seventh in the standings.

After enduring a difficult qualifying on Saturday, the Toyota Corolla GR Sport driver reaped the benefits of the soft tyre in race one to charge up to eighth before the less favourable medium compound saw him lose ground and drop to 12th.

That result saw him drawn onto pole position virtue the reverse grid draw and he made the most of it as he delivered a sensational defensive masterclass to hold off the championship leader Tom Ingram from start-to-finish.

“I’m over the moon with that result and really proud of my performance,” said Huff. “I really had to work for that win but I had an absolute blast – it was a proper touring car race and fair play to Tom, he was giving it a good go.

“After about three laps I had sussed out where he was strong as opposed to where I was strong and from then on it was just about not making any mistakes. Everything came together in that last race and it is a great reward for everyone at Speedworks Motorsport.

“We’ve taken a real step forward since the summer break and this weekend has seen us just edging the car in right direction and making the necessary tweaks. We’ve had great speed all day and to cap it off with a win is fantastic.

“The BTCC is a different beast to what it was 20 years ago and I’m still very much learning but results like this are what it’s all about. I’m looking forward to going to Donington Park in a few weeks’ time and seeing what we can do there!”
