Jason Zhang heads two 1-2 finishes for Teamwork Motorsport at Zhejiang

Lynk & Co driver Jason Zhang has extended his TCR China championship lead after two 1-2 finishes with team-mate Ma Qing Hua for Teamwork Motorsport at Zhejiang.

Zhang started from pole position for the first race and claimed the lead as the lights went out ahead of team-mate Juan Carlos Zhu.

The safety car was called into action on the second lap following an incident between Sunny Wong (Lynk & Co) and Andy Yan (Hyundai). Wong retired while Yan was able to continue to finish fifth.

The second safety car session came soon after the first as Juan Carlos Zhu stopped on track while holding second place due to an engine issue.

As the race resumed, Teamwork Motorsport driver and FIA TCR World Tour regular Ma was on the move, passing Martin Cao for third and soon after Martin Xie Xin Zhe for second place.

The last lap saw Cao, who is closest to Zhang in the title fight, passing Xie for second place.

Zhang won the first race by just over two seconds ahead of Ma while Cao was third, five seconds adrift.

The second race had 326 Racing Team driver Wu Yi Fan starting from pole and headed the field into the first corner.

Xie made a strong start and was up into second place during the first lap, snatching the lead from Wu soon after.

Zhang was also making up ground quickly at the beginning of the race and was up into fourth place by lap eight.

The Lynk & Co driver passed Xie for third place after the race’s sole safety car session which was called into action due to debris on track.

Zhang then made the move for second place on Rainey He (Hyundai) three laps from the end and was let past for the lead by team-mate Ma soon after.

Zhang won the race 1.4 seconds ahead of Ma, with Cao finishing third after having been let past by his Hyundai N team-mate He.

Zhang heads the standings on 222 points with Cao in second on 194.

The next TCR China race takes place at Ningbo on September 6-8.
