Colin Turkington dominates opening encounter at Knockhill

Colin Turkington produced a masterful performance in the opening British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Knockhill to claim his fourth win of the 2024 season.

Starting from pole position, the West Surrey Racing driver utilised the soft tyre to make a lightening start and that would be the last anyone saw of him as he pulled clear to comfortably triumph.

Behind Turkington, the battle for second place sparked into life in the latter stages as Aron Taylor-Smith, Adam Morgan and Josh Cook scrapped for the remaining spots on the podium.

Taylor-Smith produced a resolute defence for much of the contest however on lap 17, Morgan found a way past the Vauxhall driver on the run up to the chicane and in-doing so, he opened the door for Cook to follow through as well.

Cook would then pull off a sensational move around the outside of turn one to take second from Morgan while Taylor-Smith and Jake Hill completed the top five.

Reigning champion Ash Sutton produced a charging drive to progress up to sixth while Dan Rowbottom, Rob Huff, Dan Cammish and Mikey Doble completed the top ten.

Further down the order championship leader Tom Ingram found himself in strife as he battled to bounce back from a frustrating qualifying session.

Starting 15th on the medium compound, the Hyundai driver had dropped a spot at the start before contact with Aiden Moffat going down Duffus Dip caused damage to his front left, which forced him into pit lane and ultimately into retirement.

Race two at Knockhill is scheduled to get underway at 14:40.
