Colin Turkington: “The car was really hooked up”
West Surrey Racing’s Colin Turkington was left delighted after claiming not only the third British Touring Car Championship pole position of the season but also the 30th of his career.
The BMW 330e M Sport driver was the man to beat in qualifying at Knockhill as he starred in all three segments before narrowly pipping Aron Taylor-Smith to top spot; something he is now focused on converting into victory tomorrow.
“To have 30 pole positions is great, it’s a nice round number,” said Turkington. “My BMW felt really good out there; qualifying is the first time that you put new rubber on the car and I just think we got it right today.
“You see the end result and I’m on pole, but the mentality at the start is that you’re just trying to get through Q1 – my car was really hooked up.
“We chipped away in each session and probably found a tenth – which was so important in the end. I didn’t realise just how close it was between Árón [Taylor-Smith] and I. Hopefully the sun shines tomorrow and we can capitalise.”
