Tom Chilton reigns supreme in Croft finale
Tom Chilton converted pole position into a flawless lights-to-flag victory in the final British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Croft, leading home Dan Cammish and team-mate Tom Ingram.
Starting the reverse grid finale on the front row, the EXCELR8 Motorsport driver made the perfect launch as the lights went out and from there he didn’t look back as he romped to a first win of the season.
Alliance Racing’s Cammish would get the better of Aron Taylor-Smith in the opening exchanges to move into second place however it was the battle for third that had everyone on the edge of their seats.
Championship leader Ingram and race one winner Colin Turkington duked it out for the last step on the podium over a number of laps before things came to a head at Barcroft. Going wheel-to-wheel through the Jim Clark Esses, contact was made between the pair which spat Turkington off into the barrier.
Both drivers would continue however their results would be vastly different with Ingram clinching his third podium of the day while four-time champion Turkington limped to the chequered flag in 17th.
Reigning champion Ash Sutton was made to work for his fourth place finish as he fended off a charging Jake Hill while the Toyota duo of Rob Huff and Josh Cook finished bumper to bumper in sixth and seventh.
Dan Rowbottom and Adam Morgan were next in the order having both gotten the better of front-row starter Aron Taylor-Smith, who finished in further down the order. Ronan Pearson completed the top ten.
