Colin Turkington cruises to lights-to-flag Croft victory

Colin Turkington claimed his 70th British Touring Car Championship victory in commanding style at Croft, converting pole position into a comfortable lights-to-flag triumph ahead of Tom Ingram and Dan Cammish.

In what was a relatively tame opening encounter at the North Yorkshire venue, the West Surrey Racing driver maintained his lead as the lights went out

Behind, Ingram took advantage of front-row starter Cammish jumping the chicane to move into second place at Tower Bend however he could do nothing to stop the Northern Irishman from claiming winning.

Reigning champion Ash Sutton was one of the big movers in the race as he made a number of early moves to finish fourth while Arn Taylor-Smith bagged a strong result for Power Maxed Racing in fifth.

Championship leader Jake Hill was another one to watch over the course of the 15-lap contest as he hustled his BMW up to the order from 11th to clinch sixth.

Speedworks Motorsport’s Rob Huff took the chequered flag in seventh on the hard tyre, which crucially means he will switch to the faster soft compound for the remainder of the day.

Completing the top ten was Josh Cook, Tom Chilton and Dan Rowbottom.

Race 2 is scheduled to get underway at 14:45.
