Tom Ingram tops the times in opening Croft practice

Tom Ingram surged to the top of the times in opening practice at Croft as the British Touring Car Championship blasted back into life following the series’ annual summer break.

Wasting no time in laying down his marker to the rest of the field, Ingram – who sits second in the standings – set a best time of 1:21.906 around the North Yorkshire circuit to claim early bragging rights.

Hot on the heels of the Hyundai driver was the ‘King of Croft’ Colin Turkington while Aron Taylor-Smith maintained his and Power Maxed Racing’s front-running form by clinching third overall.

Rob Huff and reigning champion Ash Sutton were next on the leaderboard, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Championship leader Jake Hill kicked off his weekend by tallying the sixth fastest time.

Completing the top ten was Josh Cook, Dan Rowbottom, Tom Chilton and Adam Morgan.

The session ran largely without incident with only Mikey Doble encountering trouble late on with a lock up seeing him overshoot upon entry into the Complex.

Free Practice 2 is scheduled to get underway at 12:10.
