Josh Cook ups the ante ahead of Croft qualifying

Speedworks Motorsport’s Josh Cook charged to the top of the times in the second British Touring Car Championship practice session of the day at Croft before a late rain showers curtailed running.

The Toyota Corolla GR Sport driver set a best time of 1:21.784 at the mid-point of the session before the heavens opened in the closing stages, which prevented anyone else from improving.

Tom Chilton had been the man to beat before Cook’s time however he was able to remain in second, narrowly ahead of his Hyundai team-mate Tom Ingram.

Restart Racing’s Chris Smiley was a credible fourth in his Cupra, while Dan Rowbottom was the first of the Alliance Racing Ford’s in fifth.

Colin Turkington led the BMW runners in sixth, with Rob Huff hot on his heels and leading the remaining rear-wheel-drive machines of Adam Morgan and Jake Hill. Andrew Watson rounded out the top ten in his Corolla.

Qualifying at the North Yorkshire circuit is scheduled to begin at 15:00.
