Yann Ehrlacher slips behind in title fight after “unfortunate” incident

Yann Ehrlacher headed to the FIA TCR World Tour round in Brazil placed second overall but leaves it in fourth place after an incident in the second race.

The Cyan Racing driver, who finished fourth in the first race, started eighth and quickly gained two positions until it all ended when he got sandwiched between Raphael Reis and Néstor Girolami.

“We did a good start and claimed two places. But during lap one I ended up in a sandwich between two drivers,” said Ehrlacher.

“It was an unfortunate incident that broke the front-right suspension of the car and I had to pit for repairs. I went out of the pits without any chance to score any points.”

Ehrlacher ended up in 20th place while main title rival Norbert Michelisz won the race to further extend his points lead and the Frenchman now trails the Hyundai driver by 40 points compared to 22 ahead of the weekend.

“A bit unfortunate because the pace was definitely good even though we had weight in the car this weekend, we could have maximised a bit more. It was a little bit bad luck,” said Ehrlacher.

“It was obviously not the weekend I hoped for. But the team has scored strong points and the drivers’ championship fight is far from over.”
