Jonathan Engström in discussions for STCC continuation

Jonathan Engström made an impressive STCC debut at Ljungbyhed, securing a podium finish despite minimal preparations.

“I’m really happy and grateful for the opportunity to make my STCC debut and to perform straight away,” said Engström.

The 19-year-old is son to Tomas Engström, one of the most experienced former STCC drivers, and took over the seat of Lukas Sundahl’s BMW i4 at Exion Racing ahead of Ljungbyhed.

Engström took advantage of the start clashes in Race 2 and managed to maintain third place throughout the race.

“Unfortunately we had some technical issues in qualifying which prevented me from showing how fast I was, but Exion Racing were incredibly professional all weekend and worked hard to give me the best possible conditions for the races,” said Engström.

“I have watched many STCC races before when my father raced, I know that things usually happen at the start. I watched things unfold at start, then managed to keep third place and it was really good.”

The Swede says he is in discussions with teams for a potential continuation in the STCC.

“I am of course keen to continue racing in the STCC, but I can’t reveal anything further right now,” said Engström.
