Ruben Volt beats Franco Girolami to Race 1 victory at Spa
Ruben Volt claimed the first win of the TCR Europe weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, beating Franco Girolami who has reclaimed the points lead.
ALM Motorsport driver Volt (Honda) started second but was able to get ahead pole sitter Felipe Fernández (Honda) before the end of the first lap.
Cupra driver Girolami made a strong start as well from fourth on the grid, passing Aurélien Comte during the first lap.
The safety car was called into action on lap two following contact between MA:GP driver Viktor Andersson and GOAT Racing driver Ruben Fernández at Eau Rouge.
Andersson was able to continue to finish 12th while Ruben Fernández retired from the race.
Volt kept his lead as the race resumed while Girolami was able to get past Felipe Fernández for second place.
Volt won the race by just over 1.5 seconds ahead of Girolami, with Felipe Fernández a couple of tenths further behind in third.
Comte came home in fourth ahead of Volt’s ALM Motorsport team-mate Ignacio Montenegro.
Comtoyou Racing driver Nicola Baldan made strong progress from the back of the grid to round off the top six, nine seconds from winning driver Volt.
The second race of the weekend starts at 12:55 CEST on Saturday.
