Jimmy Eriksson inherits first Gothenburg win as Robert Dahlgren is disqualified
Robert Dahlgren’s historic first win of the new electric era was taken away from the PWR Racing driver soon after the finish of the race as his Cupra Born failed the post-race inspection, handing the win to Jimmy Eriksson.
Dahlgren won the two final heats ahead of Eriksson with a margin of 1.6 seconds in the first and just 0.059 seconds in the second.
The stewards did however find that a support arm bracket had been mounted incorrectly on Dahlgren’s Cupra Born and disqualified the four-time champion from the final and semi final.
“The only thing I can say is that I’m sad for everyone at PWR that this has happened and unfortunately the main part here is the human factor. I just want to focus on tomorrow now,” said Dahlgren.
This hands the win and 25 points to Tesla driver Eriksson, elevating his Brink Motorsport team-mate Mikael Karlsson to second and Exion Racing driver Ola Nilsson to third. Dahlgren meanwhile drops to fourth on 16 points.
“This feels great, although it might not have happened the way I wanted. But I’ll take a win every day of the week,” said Eriksson.
“Robert has driven really well all day, so it’s sad for him. Everything felt good today and I’ve taken it calmly, having been able to progress through the heats without issues.”
PWR Racing team manager Marcus Ekström accepted the disqualification and explained it as a mistake.
“When reassembling the support arms at the back, they were put in the wrong position,” said Ekström.
“There are three different positions to put the support arms in, and it has been decided that we will only be allowed to put it in the middle. We had put them in the lower position. It was obviously wrong, and we accept this.
“It’s pure carelessness on our part. Mistakes are made, but we do it as a team, and unfortunately it hit Robert this time.”
This means that Eriksson heads the standings on 26 points when adding the qualifying points, six more than Nilsson and Karlsson who share second place.
