Three American entries boosts TCR World Tour field at Mid-Ohio
The FIA TCR World Tour field will be boosted by three North American drivers at Mid-Ohio this weekend as Harry Gottsacker (USA), Mark Wilkins (CAN) and Riley Pegram (USA) have been entered.
Two of the drivers, team-mates Gottsacker and Wilkins, are currently racing in the TCR category of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, an American series which is also racing at Mid-Ohio this weekend.
Wilkins and Gottsacker are both driving a Hyundai Elantra N TCR for Bryan Herta Autosport, currently placed second and fourth overall in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.
Pegram will make her touring car debut this weekend and become the first female FIA TCR World Tour driver, driving an Audi RS 3 LMS for Pegram Racing.
She has previously raced karts and Porsche Sprint Challenge North America.
Norbert Michelisz heads to the USA as the chased FIA TCR World Tour driver, heading the standings on 97 points after a consistent start to the season.
His closest challengers are the two Lynk & Co Cyan Racing drivers Santiago Urrutia and Yann Ehrlacher, trailing the points lead by nine and 15 points respectively.
Ehrlacher meanwhile is facing a tough weekend as he will start from the back of the grid due to an engine change penalty from Marrakech. The Cyan Racing duo will also carry the most compensation weight in the US, with 40kg for Urrutia and 30kg for Ehrlacher.
Michelisz’s Hyundai team-mate Néstor Girolami, who will carry 30kg of compensation weight, shares third place with Ehrlacher while the top Honda GOAT Racing driver Esteban Guerrieri is placed fifth overall, 20 points from Michelisz.
The Mid-Ohio race weekend starts on Friday with practice and qualifying, followed by two races on Saturday.
