Franco Girolami beats Ignacio Montenegro to Salzburgring pole position

Franco Girolami beat fellow Argentinian driver Ignacio Montenegro to pole position ahead of the first TCR Europe race of the weekend at the Salzburgring in very wet conditions.

The Cupra driver lapped the 4.241 km circuit in 1:33.199, 0.103 seconds faster than Honda rival Montenegro.

Lynk & Co driver Viktor Andersson of MA:GP made it three different manufacturers in the top three, 0.282 seconds from pole position.

GOAT Racing driver Santiago Conception was fourth fastest, just 65 thousands of a second slower than Andersson.

Aurélien Comte took his Cupra León VZ TCR to fifth position, 0.358 seconds from Girolami, while Felipe Fernández rounded off the top six, six tenths from pole.

Giovanni Scamardi (Cupra) claimed the reversed grid pole position for Race 2 after setting the tenth fastest time of the qualifying session.

There was one red flag period during the Q1 session as Viktor Davidovski, who finished 11th, hit the tyre stack at Turn 1 and moved it onto the track.

The first race of the weekend starts at 09:25 CEST on Sunday.
