Aron Taylor-Smith sets the pace in opening Brands Hatch practice

Aron Taylor-Smith led a Power Maxed Racing one-two in the opening British Touring Car Championship practice session of the weekend at a sun-kissed Brands Hatch.

The Vauxhall Astra driver left it until the closing moments of the session before powering his way to the top of the times with a 47.905, just 0.007s quicker than his team-mate Mikey Doble, who also vaulted up the leaderboard late on.

Colin Turkington had sat at the top of the times for much of the session but ultimately had to settle for third, marginally ahead of Josh Cook in the lead Toyota and reigning champion Ash Sutton in his Ford Focus.

Jake Hill was another to light up the timesheets early on and he made sure that there were two BMWs inside the top six.

NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Rowbottom and Dan Cammish were next up whilst Andrew Watson and Tom Chilton completed the top ten.

Free Practice 2 is scheduled to commence at 12:05, with the finishing positions of that session set to decide the groups for Qualifying 1 later this afternoon.
