Dušan Borković gets grid penalty for impeding Ma in TCR World Tour qualifying

GOAT Racing’s Dušan Borković has been given a three-place grid penalty for impeding Lynk & Co Cyan Racing’s Ma Qing Hua in FIA TCR World Tour qualifying in Marrakech.

The pair were ninth and 10th fastest in Q2 on Friday afternoon, which provisionally put Hua on reversed-grid pole for Race 2.

Borković is now set to start 12th in Race 1, but will still be second on the Race 2 grid, having impeding Hua after the pit exit at turn one.

Borković had been sixth fastest in Q1 but was further away from the pace than he was in the second segment of qualifying.

Also profiting from the grid penalty are Hua’s team-mate Thed Björk and Borković’s own team-mate Marco Butti, who had been 11th and 12 fastest in Q2.

The stewards’ decision to penalise Borković only came at 18:45 local time (WEST), leaving little time for an appeal to take place before Race 1 begins at 11:30 on Saturday.
