Tom Ingram tops opening practice of new season at Donington Park
Tom Ingram topped the times in the opening practice session of the new BTCC season at Donington Park ahead of Dan Cammish and Dan Rowbottom.
In what was the first official session of the new campaign, all 20 cars hit the track to begin preparations ahead of qualifying this afternoon – which will run under the new ‘Quick Six’ format.
The Hyundai i30 N driver left it until the closing moments of the session before charging to the top of the times, more than three tenths clear of NAPA Racing UK’s Cammish.
Cammish had been the pace-setter up until that point with his Ford stablemate Rowbottom underlining the pace of Alliance Racing squad by completing the top three.
Four-time title winner Colin Tukrington was the first of the rear-wheel-drive BMWs in fourth while Aiden Moffat led Toyota’s charge in fifth place.
Adam Morgan, defending champion Ash Sutton, Aron Taylor-Smith, Andrew Watson and Sam Osborne completed the top ten classification.
Daryl Deleon – who completed just a solitary installation lap at the Season Launch – missed almost half the session as his Unlimited Motorsport squad worked on his Cupra Leon. Breaking cover with roughly 15 minutes remaining, the 18-year-old went on to clock a handful of laps.
