Former F1 driver Norberto Fontana joins Cobra Racing
Former Formula 1 driver Norberto Fontana will join Cobra Racing Team for the 2024 TCR South America season which starts this weekend at Interlagos in Brazil.
“I’m very pleased to add a new category to my racing career,” said Fontana.
The Argentinian took part in four F1 races during the 1997 season for Sauber and later tested for Minardi.
Fontana has since then raced in Formula Nippon, All-Japan GT Championship, CART and most recently Turismo Carretera Argentina.
2024 will see the 49-year-old driving a Toyota Corolla GRS TCR for Cobra Racing Team alongside team-mate Thiago Vivacqua.
“I have been following TCR South America since it was established, and I saw how it keeps on growing,” said Fontana.
“I have high expectations, though I know that I need some apprenticeship times, because I don’t know the car. But this is a great opportunity for me.”
