Josh Cook heads second practice ahead of Brands Hatch qualifying

Josh Cook proved to be the man to beat in second BTCC practice at Brands Hatch with the two title protagonists lower down pecking order in the final session before qualifying.

Cook benefitted from running the softer compound tyre to top the times in his Honda Civic with a time that was only 0.004s quicker than Ricky Collard’s Toyota, with the Cupra of Bobby Thompson also within a tenth of a second of the best time as he secured a solid third.

On the back of an impressive showing at Silvertstone, the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhalls were again right on the pace as Mikey Doble and Aron Taylor-Smith took fourth and fifth, with Colin Turkington’s BMW rounding out the top six.

Tom Ingram was quicker of the two title hopefuls as he put his Hyundai seventh on the times, lapping just two-tenths of a second off the pace.

Ash Sutton by contrast was 18th on the times with his best session being half a second slower than Ingram was able to manage.
