Tom Ingram battles to race two honours
Tom Ingram battled to his second win of the BTCC season after overhauling Ash Sutton to score victory in race two at Donington Park.
Ingram had followed Sutton home to finish second in race one but was then hit with a penalty for not giving Jake Hill enough room when the pair went side-by-side at the final corner.
At the start, Sutton held the lead from Jake Hill but Ingram was on a mission and launched his car down the inside of Hill into the Old Hairpin to move into second spot.
Ingram then closed onto the rear of Sutton and went for the lead going through turn one and heading for the Craner Curves on lap four.
Making his way through, Ingram grabbed the lead and although Sutton would try and come back at him at McLeans, the EXCELR8 driver held on to retain the position.
From there, Ingram edged away at the front of the field as Sutton was forced to defend hard to keep Hill’s BMW at bay.
As Ingram stormed to victory, Sutton was able to stay ahead of Hill to keep hold of second spot, with Colin Turkington shadowing the pair throughout but never being in a position to challenge for a place on the podium.
Unlike race one, things were largely quiet towards the front, with Josh Cook and Ricky Collard rounding out the top six having run in the same positions from start to finish.
Dan Rowbottom would battle his way forwards to seventh ahead of Rory Butcher, and Adam Morgan and Aron Taylor-Smith rounding out the top ten.
Taylor-Smith had run seventh early on before being shuffled back down the order as the race wore on.
Tom Chilton and Dan Lloyd followed behind and will now share the front row of the grid for race three after the top twelve on the grid was reversed.
