Pedro Cardoso disqualified from La Pedrera Race 2
Pedro Cardoso has been disqualified from the joint second TCR World Tour and TCR South America race at La Pedrera for failing a post-race ride height check.
The penalty elevates Raphael Reis to second place in the TCR South America classification and Galid Osman to third behind winning driver Bernardo Llaver.
The Hyundai driver was also handed a reprimand for a post-race incident.
Cardoso was fighting for the TCR South America victory when he made contact with Audi driver Vervisch at Turn 1 with 16 minutes left of the race.
The incident left the Brazilian driver fuming and he seemingly took out his revenge after the chequered flag had fallen.
TV images showed Vervisch facing the wrong way with rear-right damage to his Audi RS 3 LMS II as the cars drove slowly back to the pit.
Cardoso posted the following message on his Instagram after the race:
“Podium! Second place, unfortunately another day that a theoretically professional driver hit me and snatched the victory from my hands. Today more than yesterday the victory was certain and the “genius”, not to say anything else, that competes in another championship decided to spoil our party. The important thing is that we took pole and were the fastest car of the entire weekend and I’m sad for not taking the victory but happy to take home another trophy.”
Update: Article corrected for previous incorrect information on that the disqualification was issued for the contact with Vervisch.
