Ash Sutton delighted by ‘big statement’ at Donington

Ash Sutton was left delighted after making a ‘big statement’ with a fifth pole of the BTCC season at Donington Park.

The NAPA Racing UK driver emerged on top ahead of title rival Tom Ingram during the session as the Motorbase-run squad maintained its astonishing record of scoring pole for every meeting of the campaign so far.

It had looked for a while like Ingram may be the man to break the stranglehold but Sutton was able to hit the front and then improved his personal best to cement his place at the front,

“It’s a big statement from NAPA Racing UK to take every single pole up to this point – it’s an unreal achievement,” he said.

“I felt some pressure from Tom and Ricky [Collard] so had to dig deep. I wasn’t happy with the early laps and think I needed to knock the cobwebs off a bit as we’d not had any dry running in practice.

“On the second run, I was able to really push to get the lap in and with hybrid being so important round here, I had to try and nail it in the twiddly bits. The team gave me a great car and we got the job done.”
