Josh Cook expected more despite Knockhill podium
Josh Cook insisted that he expected more from the latest rounds of the BTCC season at Knockhill despite the ‘consolation’ of ending the weekend with a podium finish.
The One Motorsport driver came within 0.008s of beating Ash Sutton to pole position and had grabbed the lead from his long-time friend before slight contact between the pair going into Duffus Dip put Cook out of race one.
Forced to start the only dry race of the weekend from the back, Cook charged from through the field to finish in eighth place – just missing out on the reverse grid pole.
Despite that, Cook showed impressive wet weather pace to continue his forward charge as he took the flag in second spot – adding another podium to his tally and strengthening his Independents’ Trophy lead.
“We expected more having been on the front row and so close to pole,” he said. “Race one just didn’t go to plan with the trip into the tyres and it left us on the back foot, but we earned the podium finish with the result in race two.
“Coming through the field from the back to finish eighth gave us a real chance for race three and given how quick the car was in the dry, I was hopeful we could continue going forwards.
“Even though it then rained, we still got up to P2 which is some consolation for the team, but they deserved more as going from the wall in race one to the podium in race three showed how good the car was.”
